Oil Curse: Who Pays, As Gas Pipelines Are Blown Up.
The Niger Delta Militants have again blown up an Escravos gas pipeline, at Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta States. The Niger Delta avengers (a militant group), claimed responsibility for recent attacks on oil pipelines and installations. They gave their demands, details of which can be found on this link this; http://www.cvakutamedia.com/2016/05/sovereign-state-of-niger-delta-by.html
Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Governor (Dickson) has said it would be criminal to negotiate with the new Niger Delta militants. Also the National President, National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, Mr Israel Akpodoro has warned the federal government against, negotiating with the new militant groups, like the Niger Delta Avengers and Red Egbesu Water Lions.
Who pays the price as these gas and oil pipelines are blown up? The entire nation, including the Niger Delta will pay the price. In fact the Niger Delta area would pay a greater price. In case of gas pipeline attacks, the entire nation would be in darkness. The factories, establishments that uses electricity will loose production. The international oil prices might go up. The Niger Delta environments would be polluted more. There would be decreased revenue to the federal government, which automatically reflects on the amount, that the Niger Delta States would receive monthly. Some Niger Delta States are owning their workers many months salaries. Imagine what would happen with increased attacks on oil installations.
Developments in these areas would likely be stalled. President Buhari has promised to treat them like Boko Haram. If the President fulfills his threat, then the Nigerian military might be on the offensive. In the event of a full scale military action, the Niger Delta people would suffer greatly. When two elephants fight, the grass suffers.
