MAJ. GEN. JOHN ENENCHE’S APPOINTMENT INTO OBIDATTI PCC IS IN ORDER.
By Danjuma Usman Abubakar.
The handlers of Atiku Abubakar, who for the past 7 years has refused to stand by the Nigerian people as they are being mowed down on a daily basis, are criticising the inclusion of Maj. General John Enenche on the ObiDatti PCC on account of his past views on the Lekki Toll Gate killings.
Needless to say that Deborah Samuel would have found justice only if the presidential candidate of the PDP did not delete that tweet that would have galvanised a national quest for justice for her given Atiku’s standing in the society.
Is it really worth dissipating our energy reminding Atiku’s supporters that their principal was, months back, publicly censured by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, for abandoning the Benue people to their frustrating fate when they were being slaughtered on a daily basis by some marauding blood-thirsty death merchants? It’s on record that Atiku has not, till date, refuted the allegations of Ortom, ostensibly because he knew his actions were indefensible.
On the appointment of Maj. Gen. John Enenche, it’s preposterous to hold the view that Gen. Enenche who has since left the service cannot at this time look back at the events of the past and concede that indeed certain decisions ought to have been taken differently, and there is no better way to demonstrate such remorse than in actively participating in a process that will ensure that the events that led to the Endsars protests do not reoccur in future.
Meanwhile, while not trying to offer defence on behalf of Gen. Enenche, who we know can do so for himself, it’s to be noted that Gen. Enenche who merely found himself between the rock and the hard surface, especially given his position at the material time as the Defence Spokesperson, was neither the Commander-in-Chief, the Governor of Lagos who owned up to being the one that invited the army, nor was he the Chief of Army Staff or the Army Commandant who deployed the troops to the Lekki Toll Gate.
