Implications of N-APGA’s Endorsement of PDP Candidates.
By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A
The news was most inspiring and motivating that New APGA faction of the embattled All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has publicly declared support and endorsement for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running-mate, Chief Peter Obi together with the party’s governorship candidate in Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and his running-mate, Hon. Gerald Irona.
This beautiful development, coming from Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha, an indisputable major politician and activist in the camp of the breakaway, deceived and cheated N-APGA politicians, is most welcome.
This especially at a time like this when alliances, coalitions, supports and endorsements doors and windows are wide open with binding mutually beneficial memoranda of understanding ( MOU) treaties being signed here and there.
It is even more so when only few weeks ago, the same ebullient politician, Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha publicly in his Owerri palatial country home personally endorsed Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as next governor of Imo State. Not a few people witnessed the august event in August.
The declaration on a Myradio101 FM, Owerri radio interview progamme by Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha Tuesday, November 20, 2018 that N-APGA politicians have adopted Atiku, Obi, Ihedioha and Irona as their candidates for the respective elective offices they are gunning for, is unargubaly the most major alliance deal brokered in the run for the 2019 general elections so far in Imo State.
The implications of the N-APGA declaration for PDP in Imo State are quite numerous and very significant.
At least, it will positively impact the rapidly growing chances of the PDP in the election by according the PDP the required and desired impetus to scurry much more support and votes from other members of the Imo society, who may be seeking reasons and assurances to cast their support and votes to the PDP in the upcoming general elections.
Another implication of the N-APGA support and endorsement for PDP candidates in Imo State is that what APGA had lost PDP has gained.
APGA had aggressed most political office seekers and the party delegates that over many months sacrificed their hard earned scarce resources and met the financial conditions for participation in the primary elections that were being planned by APGA.
But after fraudulently extorting over N1 billion from the leaders and members that intended to vie for tickets in the primaries, the powers that be in APGA handed party tickets to less qualified and less suitable aspirants.
Not less than 23 governorship aspirants and hundreds of legislative office aspirants were rapaciously fleeced by a few supposed leaders of APGA in what many pundits have described as a full scale Ponzi fraud.
Among the scammed are responsible and respectable lawyers and professionals that are quite conversant with their rights.
After some profuse failed efforts at getting the APGA scam leaders to reverse their criminal action, N-APGA was born. One of the leaders of N-APGA is Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha.
Some of the members of N-APGA have found new political folds and folks to pursue their political ambitions and aspirations. However, many have remained in N-APGA apparently strategizing on the next right move. Their declaration of support and endorsement for PDP candidates has put paid to what must have seemed a dilemma for the group.
There is no doubt that the PDP and their candidates that have secured the support and endorsement of N-APGA must be excited about it. It is a very monumental and significant development that will certainly enhance the chances of the PDP in Imo State in the 2019 general elections.
What must follow immediately is igniting a consolidation process by initiating a workable strategy that will accommodate the N-APGA politicians and their teams in the Imo PDP programmes for the campaigns and elections that are in the offing.
When that is well done, it will certainly be a herculean task for any other candidate from the other parties to easily overwhelm the PDP in the elections slated for the Q1 of 2019.
One would only congratulate the N-APGA for their decision to support and endorse the PDP core candidates. A special thanks also goes to Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha. Then, the PDP must also be congratulated for the fortune of making such a big political catch, while wishing all parties in the agreement resounding sucess in the elections.
